Passap Picto: Knitting The Same Red Heart
Passap Picto: Knitting The Same Red Heart
In this video, I'll show you how to knit the red heart motif from the previous tutorial, this time using the Passap Picto carriage. While I initially expected a straightforward process, it took three attempts to get it just right. I hope this video helps you successfully knit intarsia with the Picto carriage!

    • @ArtOfClay
      @ArtOfClay 3 дня назад

      Fair Isle es la técnica que se muestra en el video. Se llama así por una isla en Escocia. Generalmente, el término se refiere al tejido en una cama con motivos simples, donde se usan al menos dos colores en la misma fila y hay flotadores de hilo en la parte posterior del tejido. A veces, 'Fair Isle' también se usa para el tejido de doble cama o se le conoce como Jacquard.

    I believe the yarn break was sold seperatly, at least it was a seperate purchase for me. The picto and the transfer carriage came with my machine on a special sale. You can use clothes pins on each yarn color if you don't have the yarn break. Binder clips also work well.

    • @ArtOfClay
      @ArtOfClay 6 дней назад

      Thank you for the suggestion. ❤ I will try the binder clips. There is a part of the intarsia brake on Thingiverse, and I will try to print it out and see if I will be able to make the rest of the parts and use it. That would be great.

  • @galaxythree4653
    @galaxythree4653 6 дней назад

    Great video. I love that you are showing how to use the publications and Passap resources. Simple Intarsia can be done without the picto, but if one enjoys picture knitting with lots of color, the picto is well worth acquiring along with the yarn break and yarn bobbins.

    • @ArtOfClay
      @ArtOfClay 6 дней назад

      Thank you for your comment! I completely agree-the Picto is incredibly useful, especially after seeing how difficult knitting this heart design was. The yarn break is essential too. I’ve found it difficult to maintain consistent tension without it when using the Picto. In the next video, I am knitting the same heart using the Picto, and both samples look different in size. They had to be sold together as a set!

    My cuff turns out huge should i lower the SS? Also will you have a tutorial on a ribbed cuff <3 ?

    • @ArtOfClay
      @ArtOfClay 6 дней назад

      Lowering the stitch size can help make the cuff a bit smaller, but if it's still too big, you might also try reducing the number of stitches. When I knit socks, I often find that the first pair ends up being a gift, and the second pair is the perfect fit. LOL. 😊 I actually have an older video on knitting a plain sock with a ribbed cuff. The ribbed cuff in that tutorial is knitted flat and then sewn later due to the limitations of the machine. I’ll definitely consider making a new tutorial for a sock with a ribbed cuff in the future. Thanks for the suggestion!

    • @stevemichael8186
      @stevemichael8186 6 дней назад

      @@ArtOfClay No problem yea i figure since it can knit rib double bed, i thought maybe two different ways... one would be making the cuff double length so it can fold over or 2nd would be casting on with waste yarn, then after i dunno 15 rows, 1 row of ravel cord, then casting on the rib cuff, knitting twice the amount of ribbed cuff... drop the bed down, pull up the beggining with the waste yarn and rehang stitches around, then pull out ravel cord to take off the waste yarn, put up bed and continue with a double ribbed cuff, i like the more pronounced cuff look <3...

    • @ArtOfClay
      @ArtOfClay 6 дней назад

      Your response made me think. The second way of knitting the rib that you mentioned can be done automatically without the waste yarn. First, you have to arrange the needles in a 1:1 division and knit the first row with the machine set to N/N (SS - 3). Then, increase the SS to 5, or for the main knitting, set the back lock to BX, and raise pushers in 1:1 division under the needles on the back bed. The leftmost one should be in WP. Knit the needed rows of ribbing ending with the lock on the left side. Next, set the back lock to N, raise all needles on the front bed and knit 1 row, or set one of the locks to GX, transfer all stitches to one of the beds, and continue knitting. You should get the folded rib automatically sewn. I have shown this method in my scarf hat video.

Also for this eseentially you could make the ribbing, and then use decker combs to transfer back to front bed in a circular fasion to continue on knitting the leg of the sock ? <3...

      Hi there! 😊 I’m so glad to hear that my videos are helping you! I’m not familiar with waffle or pique yet, but I’ll definitely look into them. Just to clarify, are these stitch patterns?

    • @galaxythree4653
      @galaxythree4653 9 дней назад

      Yes, They are both stitch patterns of a rib class. The waffle stitch is a high low stitch that creates square divets similar to a food known as waffles. Also similar to a tuck stitch known as a honey comb stitch. The other is also a ribbed stitch with a type of knot evenly spaced. I have seen this done as a hand manipulated stitch but not as an automatic machine stitch. There is also a similar hand manipulated stitch done as a special edge trim.

    Nicely done. Now that others can visually see the rectangle that comes from the machine, they can expirment with different stitch patterns. You can leave the beginning and ending rows with eyelets the same or make stripes here with two rows of another color. Now change the middle section to be a different stitch style. Try using double bed tuck stitches or an image stitch from your manual. You can really have fun and change this up a lot. It would be a lot of fun to see everyones' creative results. Add fringe to the top edge. See the video about knitting fringe. On this channel. Use a ribbon instead of the Icord. Sew pearl buttons the size that fit through the eyelets. Have fun and use up left over yarns. Great winter gifts. Stay warm and cozy. 😮❤

    Thank you so much; so useful as usual ❤, so i see that you are for putting weights to Passap ? You think that its necessary?

    • @ArtOfClay
      @ArtOfClay 12 дней назад

      Thank you for your kind words! 😊 Regarding using weights, I think they are very useful in some situations. The Passap machines are well-made to work without weights attached, but depending on the condition of your strippers, some stitch patterns may cause the edge stitches to drop or become unknitted. For example, if I am working with a tuck pattern, or, as shown in the video, a Fisherman's rib, I like to use weights to prevent that. Another use for weights is when you are knitting the toe of a sock, as you don’t need to move the edge springs for each decrease. The weights will pull down the knitted fabric, keeping the edge stitches in place.

    Please check your email for a longer explanation. Your guage swatches are correct. The form program you have chosen from the book is for children. The icon images at the top of the page tell you if the pattern is for children at the front of the book, women show next and the programs for men come after the images for women at the very top of the page. All the pattern styles are the sane in the book. In this case, they are all raglan style. You find the differences in the measurements shown on the pattern pieces drawn out. What do you mean by the 'elastic effect'? If the yarn is too loose in that area, you could try lowering the stitch size for those 2 or 4 rows. Alternatively, you might knit the last row of the ribbing with a slightly larger stitch size, then rehang the purl bumps to fill in the empty needles instead of knitting the tubular rows.

      Yes, you can use thin yarns, and basically any yarns that aren't too thick for the machine to handle. I've knitted with crochet cotton yarn and even used sewing thread. You can also combine several strands of thin yarn to achieve the desired look of the fabric. Just make sure to test the yarn on your machine to ensure it runs smoothly without causing any issues.

      @@ArtOfClay Thank you so much, troubleshootings videos about this machine are rare on youtube, we are so many to find difficulties

      I'll keep that in mind for future content. I haven’t encountered many issues with the machine myself, which is why I haven't uploaded troubleshooting videos. However, if there's anything specific you're struggling with, feel free to share. I may be able to look into it and provide some useful information or show it in a video.

      @@ArtOfClay The main problems for beginners i think; when the machine gets blocked, and the holes in knitting, why some needles dont catch the yarn, thank you in advance

      I assume that all of these issues might be related to using the wrong stitch size, incorrect tension on the mast, or unsuitable yarn thickness. It’s tricky to cover this in a video because there’s no one-size-fits-all setting for different types of yarn. Each yarn type requires adjustments to the stitch size and tension. Even if the yarn is the same brand, variations between batches might require changes in settings or result in different gauge swatches. I’ll consider how to create a video that covers this topic.
